Skirmish Day 3-26-03
Report by Nathan Miller
We've been having a lot of skirmish days lately while
our members build up their armies for larger battles. Here is an
account of one such day. This isn't so much a battle report as much
as it is a picture gallery with comments.
In our infinite wisdom we decided to play large skirmishes
with about 350 or so points on a side. Each person was allowed one
Hero and could field champions as well. 350 points make for a large
skirmish but some of us are still not quite up to 1000 points of painted
troops so we decided to go with this high point count so we could get as
many of our painted minis on the field as possible.
On the Desert Table Mario Mora's Dark Elves faced Nathan
Miller's Chaos. On the Woodland Table Michelle Miller's Orcs and
Goblins faced Jeffery Johnson's Orcs and Goblins. The scenario was
simply to fight until last man standing or one side gave up.
Nate's Chaos Warband lines up before the battle.
Michelle and Jeff get their Orky insanity going.
Nate's Chariot slams into two of the three Cold one
Knights Mario fielded killing both cold ones and one rider leaving the
seccond rider knocked down. Early in the game it looked like Chaos
had a big advantage.
The Orcs get Stuck in good on their table.
Both sides employing the cunning Orky tactic of all out charging straight
into things. Note that the only troops being very sneeky are Jeff's
goblin wolf riders on the right side making an end run arround Michelle's
right flank.
Things start to get bloody on the Desert Table.
Mario has killed the Chaos hero with about a million reapeter crossbow
bolts. The Chaos Marauders are fighting crossbowmen and a large number
of them have ganged up on the Dark Elf Hero with their Champion.
Things still look good for the chariot here. The last Cold One knight
charged the chariot only to have his mount slain in the attack. he
did do some damage to the chariot though.
As you can see things have gotten quite messy on
the Orc and Goblin table. Michelle's Hero, Hawg Slobo, and his boar
boys are fighting some squigs and infantry on the hill. I'm not sure
where Jeff's hero is at this point. Since I wasn't actaully playing
this battle I'm not sure who is winning. I doubt the Orc players
know either.
After taking some pretty heavy casualties the Chaos
Marauders and their Champion finally take down the Dark Elf Hero but there
were still a large number of Dark Elf crossbowmen to deal with. The
Cold one Knights had taken out the chariot but been killed by it's crew
who were then killed by the Dark Elf crossbowmen.
At this point we just started calling the Orc battle
a mess. Michelle's Hero had been slain and her shaman was about to
be taken down by Jeff's Hero and wold rider. Michelle still had a
lot of hard hitters in the field but she was beginning to think that Gork
was not with her lads.
And This is how it ended in the Desert. The
Chaos Marauders had managed to slay the Dark Elves on their side of the
field but they had lost their champion in the process. The Dark Elves
on the other side of the field simply spent the next couple rounds shooting
Marauders full of bolts as the Marauders tried to close with them.
These Three Dark Elves were the only survivers of the battle. Vicotry
went to Mario's Dark Elves in a close fought skirmish.
And this is how it ended on the Orc table.
After loosing her Hero and Shaman and a number of her lads Michelle's remaining
lads decided that Jeff's Hero was "Da Boss".
So that's How it went. We often fight these
kinds of skirmishes but we have decided that in the future we would play
with smaller skirmish forces and have a turn limmit since both games went
several turns and it took a couple of hours to play.
